George Leon Helmling, age 83 of Freedom Township, passed away January 15, 2025.
He was born October 3, 1941, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Fred C. and Ester (Baldwin) Helmling. George graduated from James A. Garfield High School and was a tool and die maker by trade. He retired from the Chrysler Twinsburg Stamping Plant.
George was a member of the UAW. He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed going to car shows. George coached high school volleyball in his younger years and continued to follow the sport. He was also active in politics.
George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law David and Missy Helmling, his granddaughter Valerie (Kevin) Kurkey, and his brother Charles (Carolyn) Helmling.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
