The Garrettsville Lions Club soccer team just concluded a very successful indoor session at the Tallmadge Rec Center. With three new players this year and missing four players for the first game against the Akron Futbol Club (a team that plays together year round), the Lions were losing 4 to 0 and came all the way back to tie the game at 5, but gave up a late goal to lose 6 to 5. The Lions went on to win their next seven games outscoring their opponents 88 to 14 and avenged their only loss on the very last game of the session against Akron FC (Akron FC ended up with 2 losses and 1 tie). Besides Akron FC the Lions defeated teams from Akron Ellet, Coventry, CVCA, Field, Kent and Tallmadge taking first place for the first session in the High School division. The second session starts January 8, 2018.
Zach Gorby led the offense scoring at least two goals in every game and finished with 28 goals and 31 assists. Francisco “Chovi” Carvajal scored 18 goals followed by Joe Golgosky, Tyler Bisson and Ben Kovacic with seven goals apiece. Andrew Morrissey, Jaime Barahona, Evan Peters and Ethan Lowry had four goals each. Bryan Zalamea and Mason Mayoros had three goals while John Lininger and Isaiah Schweizer and finished with two goals. The players with four goals or less primarily played defense and the goalie duties were split between Jaime Barahona, Evan Peters and Ben Kovacic.
