Garrettsville Hiram Rotary welcomes Roger Hollis

2430

Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club welcomed Roger Hollis to their March 15, 2021 zoom meeting to speak about a start-up organization named FishMySpot, recently formed to encourage outdoor activity–specifically fishing– and youth participation in non-screen learning in nature. The idea is to have small groups (four or fewer people–parents and/or grandparents accompanying kids, for instance) enjoying time together and catching fish in privately-owned ponds in nearby locales.  The pond owners are able to set their own conditions to monetize the use of  these features on their property and–through the liability insurance coverage which is part of their agreement  with FishMySpot–set terms and conditions suitable for their property. The organization sets prices in co-operation with the owners and their facilities, runs the sign-up procedures and referrals as well as ratings of the ponds themselves and the fisherpeople who enjoy them.  As these are private properties, no state fishing licenses are required and it can be a local, enjoyable time for all.  No ice fishing. They’re aiming to be “the airbnb of fishing” and can be reached at www.fishmyspot.com.  They’re always looking for new ponds and new owners who would like to share.

In Rotary business, there was more discussion of participation in SummerFest and the James A. Garfield Historical Society village tour in the Fall as well as a review of the Rotary harassment policy which needs to be examined and signed.  Scholarship notifications have gone out to JAG seniors; essays will be coming in.

Next week’s program will feature Bobbi Calkins on Gardens, herbs and gardening on-line.

It’s all good.
