The February 3, 2020 meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary was all business. The following topics were under discussion :
There was a review of the treasurer’s report including explanations, itemization and projections for future activities. Involved with this was discussion of the G-H contributions to SummerFest, including photo ops, a history tour, a scavenger hunt with selfies and other possibilities…to be discussed with Aaron King; a meeting is in the offing. Headwaters Trail, Portage Parks, the DMRC and the approaching Road Apple Roubaix were on the agenda for encouraging local participation and making visitors more welcome (bike stands?), and more frequent. A recent Portage Cluster meeting brought up the idea of having a cluster project, specifically to be co-ordinated with the Toastmasters organization and school systems, to encourage students in becoming more proficient at public speaking.
Upcoming programs for the G-H Rotary include a Rotary Youth Exchange student coming on February 17 to speak about the one-month summer exchange possibilities and to encourage more participation; InterAct students may be invited to get a look. On February 24, the program will be presented by Judy Thornton, of the Freedom Historical Society. She will be giving a narrative on the restoration of the group’s church/school/derelict building which is now an ornament to the community.
Amy Turos was honored as a new member. Jim Irwin reported on his make-up lunches in Florida. The G-H Rotary will be helping stuff snack-packs in May for the NGCC program over the summer. Officer-training meetings are coming up.
Happy$ made the scene for a release from the hospital, roller skating for a birthday boy, the kick-off for morning Chamber meetings at the Mill (the renovation TV program is coming), a renewed real estate listing resulting from a personal touch, a hope for a resolution of the school voucher mess, a return home, a return home for parents, and just for a good day (x2).
It’s all good.
