Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Report

2581

The  November 25, 2019 meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club was focused on upcoming events, the first of which was the distribution of  dictionaries to students in the James A. Garfield third grade and to third graders in the local Amish schools as well.  The Dictionary Project will have its 2019 finale on November 26 in the Garfield Elementary School at 3:00 p.m., or thereabouts.

Also on the docket was the topic of the Santa Gift Delivery coming up on December 23.  Those with gifts to be delivered by the jolly old elf should bring them to either The Business Works, Middlefield Bank (Garrettsville branch) or McCumbers-Brady Realty by December 20.  There is no charge for the delivery, however, donations will be turned over to the People Tree which assists those in need in our community. By the bye, elves are needed for the event.

The Christmas Party will be coming up and with it thoughts on organizing the leadership and direction for the coming year.  G-H Rotary has a culture of co-operation for dealing with these matters.  White elephant gifts will be part of the festivities.

There was a brief mention of the history of Rotary, prompted by its inclusion in a replica copy of the Old Farmer’s Almanac.  This expanded into information about the Rotary Foundation and its establishment “to do good in the world”.

Attending representatives of the Historic Johnson Home (Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints), the Calleys, from Colorado, gave some of their impressions of Ohio, told of their visit to Hermann’s Pickles, got recommendations for local eateries and directions for finding an outlet for buckeye candy.

Happy bucks were offered for a son’s arrival from college, a video of a granddaughter’s birthday, a son’s new home, a ride–and all that goes with it–on the Polar Express, a good health prognosis, the appearance of cardinals (Ohio’s state bird ), dinner with a spouse.

It’s all good.
