Seeking a venue for the group’s centennial celebration took up most of the discussion at the January 19, 2026 meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary. Size of the guest list, level of formality and availability of parking were among the prime considerations for decisions, complicated by the date–Thursday,June 11, 2026–a prime time for weddings and graduations, taking up availability of usable facilities. Search goes on.

Kudos to Pam Montgomery for her diligent research on this historical event.

Other business included a changed location of the proposed Story Walk at the South Street (Bill Phelps) Park in co-operation with the Garrettsville branch of the Portage County Library and the Portage County Park District. The Tom Collins Memorial Walking Trail may be coming into play. The abutment mural is poised to be created once the weather is amenable. Jeff Drebus proposed a financial template/forecast mechanism to be considered for more informed planning and budgeting. There will be a speaker from the Land Bank next week.

The boxes for the community service outreach have arrived. Local police, fire services and EMS unit(as well as emergency management personnel)s will be involved in setting up and distributing lockboxes to residents who request them, enabling security and accessibility for citizens within the community.

It’s all good.
