Garrettsville – The Rotary Club of Garrettsville-Hiram met on May 15, 2023 at Cal’s II, Sky Plaza, Garrettsville, to discuss their community-focused initiatives. One of the main topics was selecting a project eligible for grant funding from District 6630. The most popular options were repainting the Garrettsville Train on the former railroad bridge abutment and repairing/replacing/refreshing the fountain and gazebo area by the Boardwalk. Ultimately, the decision was made to combine the two projects into the Garrettsville Beautification Project. An application was promptly submitted, and the club now awaits a response.

The upcoming Golf Outing, scheduled for June 2, is in support of the Tom Collins Rotary Memorial Walking Trail. Daystar Ford and Great Lakes Cheese have already signed on as event sponsors, and there are still opportunities available for hole sponsorships. Door prizes are being organized, and contributions are welcome.

Training for the in-bound exchange student counselor is ongoing through online modules, and a backup family has volunteered. All preparations for the Rotary Scholarships presentation on May 18 at the JAG Senior Awards Night are in place. In honor of Carol Donley’s exceptional contributions, a memorial gift will be given to Hiram College.

During the meeting, members shared “Happy Bucks” as a way to acknowledge various personal achievements and positive experiences. These included a successful flower sale, a productive craft and flower sale, upcoming plant sale appointments, the support of a helpful son, memories of a departed sister, the visit of a brother, a wife’s return, a granddaughter’s speaking engagement with a grandpa, a fulfilling career, and an ongoing remodeling project.

Overall, the meeting was productive, with progress made on community projects and upcoming events, fostering a sense of positivity among the members.
