Awaiting Buckeye Chuck, the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary convened on January 29, 2024, to address the following agenda:
Communication has taken place with the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities regarding a grant related to the construction of the Tom Collins Memorial Walking Trail. Inquiries are underway about a similar trail in Kinsman, OH, including details such as the contractor responsible, the availability of contractors, and updated cost estimates. Further updates on this matter will be provided in due course.
Upcoming events include the bowling event for exchange students, the bowling fundraiser (with ongoing recruitment for bowlers and baskets), and the Road Apple Roubaix (featuring a bike wash, distribution of flyers, coupons, and special offers). Casey Timmons has been chosen as the president-elect, pending the conclusion of the tax season. Additionally, there is a notification about the upcoming Rotary Night with the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 22, offering special deals for Rotarians and exchange students within the district. The G-H Rotary will continue its collaboration with the GEA in sponsoring yard signs for Garfield seniors this year. The anticipated ironwork repair for the Baptist/Maple Ave Cemetery is expected to be completed when the weather permits.
A recent visit from an out-of-state exchange student successfully showcased the charms of Garrettsville and the surrounding region. Host families are still needed to facilitate more exchanges, providing a rewarding family experience.
Happy bucks were contributed in celebration of an upcoming new baby, a successful basketball game, a grandson’s birthday (along with the associated party), the resolution of a credit card issue, and positive developments in tax situations and balanced books. All in all, it’s a season of good news.
