Garrettsville – The Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club convened its latest meeting, with newly elected President Mark Brady leading the proceedings. The meeting encompassed a wide range of topics and plans for upcoming events.

One of the key discussions during the meeting centered around the possibility of organizing a pizza party on September 6. The event would serve as a meet-and-greet opportunity for InterAct members, prospective members, and faculty, aiming to foster collaboration on mutual projects and activities.
Another notable event on the horizon is the Guardians game Rotary Night, scheduled for August 17. Attendees were informed that tickets for the event are now available for purchase online. Not only would participants enjoy various perks, but their participation would also support the ā€œEnd Polio Nowā€¦Polio Plusā€ initiative.

In an effort to showcase the clubā€™s local projects, a new Rotary brochure is currently in the works. The brochure will provide information on past, present, and future initiatives undertaken by the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club.

As part of their annual summer activities, the club will host the G-H Rotary annual summer picnic on August 21. The picnic promises an array of games and activities, with a particular highlight being the introduction of the new Rotary Exchange student.

Despite the excitement surrounding upcoming events, the club expressed its eagerness to receive village approval and finalize plans for the first phase of the Tom Collins Memorial Rotary Walking Trail. The trailā€™s construction is slated to take place at the South Street (Bill Phelps) Park, with club members emphasizing the importance of expedited approval.

Furthermore, there were inquiries about the replacement or update of the Garrettsville mural on Windhan Street. Members discussed the need to take action regarding the mural to ensure its preservation and continued impact on the local community.

During the meeting, guests Carolyn Miller and Lewis Nonte were warmly welcomed. Lewis Nonte, in particular, held a special place in the hearts of local members as a former Rotary exchange student. Nonte, who had recently returned for a visit, shared a brief outline of his life since participating in the exchange program. He highlighted his current apprenticeship in a commercial wind turbine company in Germany and shared interesting anecdotes about his journey back to Ohio.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship to outgoing president Lisa Muldowney. Delores McCumbers, a club member, provided a brief overview of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary and the first president of Rotary International. The fellowship was marked by a generous $1000 gift from the club to Rotary International. With over 1.2 million members worldwide, Rotary International undertakes crucial work in education, community service, healthcare, and international cooperation.
To wrap up the meeting on a positive note, members shared their ā€œHappy Bucksā€ contributions. Among the reasons for celebration were a great vacation, a successful golf outing nearby, a memberā€™s birthday, the opportunity to present the Paul Harris Fellowship, Lewis Nonteā€™s visit, the rising stock market, and decreasing inflation.
