How Ya gonna keep ‘em down on the farm?

Well, who wants to, when they can come to the Garrettsville Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.? Yes, indeedy, the summer is looking more tasty already, after the grand opening on June 21, for all comers—and there were quite a few. The Market will be held on the site of the much-missed Buckeye Block, after having opened in a slightly different location because of the imminent Garrettsville SummerFest.

Look for it there at the next opportunity, which will be Thursday, June 28.
The Grand Opening featured a pair of giant scissors to cut the red ribbon (Psst- -the real cutting edges were much smaller but actually worked.). The mayor, Rick Patrick, was there, ditto for his lovely wife, Linette, and Ted Lysiak, Chamber president and superintendent of James A. Garfield Schools, Sara Hill, market manager and her right and left-hand helpers, Whitney Podboy and Rustine Shelley, as well as a cadre of green-shirted volunteers. The Village Bookstore and Just For Kids offered activities for children (I still want a rubber duck… books, I have. The face-painting was impressive). There were shopping bags , hats and shirts available. It was a cheerful crowd—hungry too.

Available to satisfy the hunger were the following vendors : The Tiny Jelly Company, Monroe’s Orchard and Farm Market (cherries), Art-N-Flowers (bouquets and arrangements), the Cellar Door Coffee Company, the Succulent Hut (plants in pots), Birdsong Farm (organic vegetables and herbs), Copper Hawk Farm (organic vegetables), McDivitt Family Maple (syrup, candy, condiments), K&K Meat Shoppe, Top Tier Pastry (get there early—it goes fast), and the Root Beer Float folks (definitely tasty on a hot summer day). American National Insurance even helped out by providing reusable shopping bags.

More vendors may be on the way when word of the successful opening gets around.
Mark it on your calendar: Thursday, 4 to 7 at the Buckeye Block, Garrettsville. While you’re in town, be sure to stop by the local brick & mortar shops on Main Street which are also staying open late.

It’s not Paree, but it’s definitely a great place to be.
