Garrettsville – The Garrettsville Family YMCA is excited to announce the Before and After school program, which will be held at James A Garfield Elementary School, is now registering students for the 2018/19 school year.
Nicole Thompson of Garrettsville will be the site administrator for this program. Nicole graduated from James A. Garfield High School and the Maplewood Career Center with her focus on Early Childhood Education. She then went to Lakeland Community College where she graduated with her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Prior to joining the YMCA, Nicole operated her own daycare center for 10 years in Middlefield. She and her husband Mark Thompson have three children in the Garfield school district and Nicole is very excited to become part of the Garrettsville YMCA before and after school program.
The YMCA is focused on your child’s education as well as on them having fun while learning. The before/after care program will follow a state-approved curriculum that will allow the children time to work on their homework, do fun learning-crafts, science experiments, and work on larger motor skills (including going outside on the playground). In addition, the children will receive a healthy snack and drink.
The before/after care program will be available on all snow days and non-school days — excluding weekends and all major holidays. Students can be enrolled for before care (6:30 am – 9 am), after care (3:30pm – 6 pm) or both, and can choose part-time or full-time options. In addition, the program will be accepting JFS vouchers for eligible students.
The Garrettsville Family YMCA is working towards expanding this program into a summer camp program which would include art time, science time, field trips and a lot more.
If you are interested in enrolling your school age child or would like to find out more about the program, the YMCA will be having an Open House on Thursday, August 16th from 6 – 8 pm or you can call the Garrettsville YMCA at 330-469-2044 to register TODAY.
