Garrettsville Eagles Announce Scholarship Winners

On June 26, 2019, the Garrettsville Eagles announced the winners of the 2019 scholarship awards. They are:

Madeline Vaughan, granddaughter of Jeanne Tancos. Madeline is a 2019 graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine. She was a member of the National Honor Society, earned academic honors in English, Acting, Physics, Biology and AP Human Geography. She has also earned State-level awards in Speech tournaments; Theater All-Festival cast award for acting; and Theater judge commendation for directing. Madeline is active in the Eastpoint Christian Church as a group leader and teacher; as a camp counselor for the Saco Parks & Recreation; and worked as a waitress and customer service representative. She has been accepted to Kent State University and will major in Theater and Sociology, and aspires to become a teacher.

Travis Synnestvedt, a 2019 graduate of James A. Garfield High School in Garrettsville and Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna, the son of Deidre (Dee) Synnestvedt, plans to attend Cuyahoga Community College Metro Campus in the Electric Utility Technology Associate program. His goal is to work as a substation electrician for First Energy, and work his way up in the company. While in high school, Travis earned letters in cross-country and track, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was a two-time State qualifier in Skills USA. He is also an Eagle Scout, and volunteers with the People Tree. He has worked at Cal’s Restaurant as a dishwasher and delivery driver, and is currently working with 3D Electric as a residential electrician.

Sarah Miller is the daughter of Stephen Miller and is a 2019 graduate of James A. Garfield High School in Garrettsville. Sarah has been accepted to The Ohio State University – Mansfield and plans to study Logistics/Supply Chain Management. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Operation Keepsake leadership team; has earned varsity letters in 4 different sports and ten scholar-athlete awards. She served as a Freshmen in the Know mentor, Camp Fitch counselor, Camp Read-a-Lot leader, Safety Village leader and volunteered at the St. Joseph Church Ox Roast. She currently works at Dick’s Sporting Goods.

All three recipients received $1,250 toward their college education. We, the members of Garrettsville Aerie #2705, congratulate you on a job well done, and wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Over 14 years, the Garrettsville Eagles have awarded $30,250 to 43 recipients, and will continue to do so in the coming years. This program is in addition to the club’s support of several community services.
