1521

Garrettsville – Village officials present at the March 14th village council meeting, were Village Solicitor Michele Stuck, Nancy Baldwin, Mayor Rick Patrick, and Council people Tom Hardesty; Deb (Glass) Wordell; Jeff Kaiser; John Chambers; Chris Knop; and Tom Collins. The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Mayor Rick Patrick.

The minutes from the prior meeting were approved in a unanimous vote; as was a motion to pay the bills. Council reviewed the income tax and delinquency reports which both looked good.

Former councilperson Shei Johnson was present to receive recognition via a resolution thanking her for time spent on Village Council. Sheri received a framed copy of the resolution from Mayor Patrick.

Discussion then turned to the village’s website project. Baldwin reported that the village has received three bids one from local software consultant Hammer Data Systems, LLC; one from AtNet, and the final from Apptegy (developer of the JAG Schools, and Chamber websites/mobile apps). Council is going to review the bids and discuss further at a future meeting.

Resolution 2018-16, a resolution amending the village employee handbook, was approved unanimously. This amendment removes the requirement that council and BPA post job listings in the Water Department, Village Garage, etc. for departments promoting from within.

Resolution 2018-17 recognizing outgoing Police Chief Tony Militia was approved; as was

Resolution 2018-18 which authorized the Village and JAG Local School District to work together to hire a school resource officer for the Garfield campus.

Resolution 2018-19 continues Michele Stuck’s appointment as Village Solicitor for 2018.

Resolution 2018-20, appointing Timothy Christopher as the new Police Chief, was approved unanimously. Keep an eye on the Villager in the coming weeks for more on Tony Militia’s retirement, and Tim Christopher’s promotion.

Roundtable discussion at this month’s meeting was kept fairly brief. Knop brought up the status of the Liberty Bridge project, which appears to be moving along, but has conflicted status depending on who you talk to at the county office. Patrick will be putting in a call to see if anyone can provide a more accurate completion estimate. Wordell inquired about Ohio Edison trimming trees and shrubs in the utility right-of-way. It was confirmed that yes the utility workers have been out in the area. Patrick reported that the new Police Tahoe had arrived at Charles Auto Family, and that they would hopefully be taking possession of it over the weekend.

The meeting then entered executive session for the purpose of discussing employee compensation. The meeting was adjourned shortly after.
