The Garrettsville Cemetery Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 pm, downstairs at the Cellar Door, at the corner of Main and Water Streets in Garrettsville.
Special guest speaker for the evening will be Janet Caldwell of Bedford. While Janet holds a degree in education, she has a long interest in history. She has taken many additional courses, including museum exhibit design, conservation of artifacts and non-profit management.
Janet has written articles and published books about local history. She has served the Bedford Historical Society as a volunteer, trustee and employee, retiring as director in 2013 and as curator in 2015.
Today she is active in the non-profit community of northeast Ohio. She currently serves on the board of the Northeastern Ohio Inter-Museum Council. The NEOIMC consists of 130 non-profit organizations that include the Rock Hall, Cleveland Art Museum, local historical museums, county metro parks and the National Park Service.
Her interest in historic cemeteries has resulted in additional seminars and hands-on workshops about stone and masonry restoration. She has helped preserve Bedford Cemetery through tours, programs, fund raising and workshops for cemetery personnel.
Janet provides communities like Garrettsville and organizations like the Cemetery Association with information so that educated and careful preservation decisions for the restoration of these historic sites can be made.
All residents interested in the restoration and preservation of the Old Baptist Cemetery on Maple Avenue are welcome to attend.
