Garfield’s “Bands In The Round” Program A Musical Success

1256

Garrettsville – The James A. Garfield Music Department held their Annual District-Wide Concert, “Bands in The Round” this past Sunday with all the district’s bands performing. If you missed this music extravaganza you missed a great show. As always, the director of all the bands, Theo Cebulla, demonstrated once again how strong the music program at James. A. Garfield is by the selections chosen for the event.

We heard from the Fifth Grade Band as they performed a more classical piece “Mozart Melody” to a fun loving selection “Mickey Mouse March.” These students just started playing their instruments this past fall and showed the crowd how quickly they have learned their instruments.

The Sixth Grade Band with just two years under their belts also showed their musical talents by performing “The Thunderer” and a more classical piece “Concerto for Triangle.” Both the young bands entertained the concert goers with fun, yet classical, pieces.
The Middle School Band, which consisted of seventh and eighth graders demonstrating their musical maturity, performed fun pieces like “Junk Funk” and “The Avengers”. They also did a more classical piece, “Two Marches for America.”

The High School Band did their traditional songs with the two crowd favorites “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Remember Me.” The annual concert closes with all bands playing the “Fight Song.” This piece demonstrates not only their talents but it also shows how much fun the kids have in band. Mr. Cebulla gets the song started and basically, just lets the kids just enjoy the moment. The drum line takes over and the kids just have fun playing the “Fight Song.” If you have never heard this you have really missed a great event.

This is always a bittersweet event for the seniors. For some of them it is the last time they will play the school’s fight song.

The bands are under the Direction of Theo Cebulla and Assistant Director Joel Logan
