Garfield Local Schools & Maplewood: Partners In Education

1314

This month we would like to focus on the partnership between J.A. Garfield High School and Maplewood Career Center.

Maplewood Career Center provides a quality education for many of our students. The programs available to students are: Applied Engineering and Machining, Animal Science, Auto Collision Technology, Auto Service Technology, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting, Early Childhood Education, Electricity, Graphic Communications, Hospitality Service Careers, Information Technology, Marketing and Management, Masonry, Mechanical, Groundskeeping and Construction, Medical Assisting, Power Equipment Mechanics, Robotics and Computer Technology, and Welding.

The students who decide to attend Maplewood graduate high school ready to work in a highly technical trade, and are able to make substantial money with benefits. In a job market where trade jobs are not able to be filled, Maplewood students come out of high school with the skills needed to be employed immediately.

The partnership between the two buildings is critical as we continue to encourage students to attend Maplewood. Maplewood works with us to allow our students to remain active in our school, they attend pep rallies, assemblies, school dances, are in the band, and play sports with James A Garfield students.

We are immensely proud of our Maplewood students, they are members of National Honor Society, graduate with honors, and many attend post-secondary education as well as enter the work force. Most recently senior Isaac Russell and junior Travis Synnesvedt performed well and won at SkillsUSA competitions.

Travis placed sixth in the field of Electrical Construction Wiring while Issac took first place in the field of Industrial Motor Controls and will compete nationally this summer. Congratulations to both!
