Garfield Interact Club Promotes “Service Above Self”

671

Garrettsville – Interact club is a branch of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary club working to help out the community as much as we can. My name is Sarah Kent and I am the current president of the James A. Garfield Interact Club and I am serving alongside vice-president Rachel Rader and secretary Chelsea Bates. This year we have around 35 members actively doing community service. This group is based around “service above self” and the idea of thinking about others with whatever you do.

Some of the main projects we have helped carry out this year include bell ringing to support the People Tree, babysitting during PTO meetings and doing a roadside clean-up along State Route 82. We also maintain the plastic/aluminum recycling system in our high school during the school year and clean the football stadium after home games. For one of our main projects in the spring, we hope to work with Habitat for Humanity in building houses for those who need a helping hand in the community.

We are always looking for more ways to help out the community, if you have a project that you would like some extra help with, let us know! Please contact our advisor, Missy Petrie, in the high school at 330-527-4341 or mpetrie@jagschools.org.
