Aurora Community Theatre continues its 60th anniversary tribute to the 1960s with the delightful farce, “BOEING BOEING”, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm Jan. 24 – Feb. 15. The theatre is located at 115 E. Pioneer Trail.
Set in a Paris apartment, “BOEING BOEING” by Marc Camoletti, Beverley Cross, and Francis Evans tells the story of Bernard, a playboy architect with a fondness for becoming engaged to stewardesses – one Italian, one German and one American. When weather and speedier jets conspire, the lothario faces catastrophe as all three fiancées land simultaneously.
Mixups, confusion, merry misadventures and mistaken identities keep the laughs coming in this 2008 winner of the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.
Paula Kline-Messner returns to the ACT stage to direct Rob Albrecht as Bernard; Claudia Lillibridge, his exhausted, exasperated housekeeper, Berthe; and Chris Bizub, as Bernard’s visiting friend from Wisconsin, Robert.
Performing the roles of Bernard’s fiancé flight attendants are: Tina Davis, the Italian Gabriella; Diana Nabring, the American Gloria; and Laura Swinsburg, as Gretchen from Germany.
Guy Custer and Amie Gabel are co-producing the show with Gabel also serving as board liaison. Ann Nyenhuis is stage manager and technical director with April Sike, assistant stage manager, and Dave Nyenhuis run crew manager.
Beverly Cross translated the English language adaptation of “BOEING BOEING”, which was first staged in London at the Apollo Theatre in 1962 and transferred to the Duchess Theatre in 1965, where it ran for a total of seven years. In 1991, the Guinness Book of Records listed it as the most performed French play throughout the world.
