Freedom Township Historical Society will host barn historian and author Judy Thornton at 7 pm Tuesday, July 12, at the Freedom Picnic Pavilion, 8966 S.R. 700 (right across from the town hall). Mrs.Thornton will be sharing her vast knowledge of the history of Mail Pouch barns and many fascinating photos of the iconic barns, which dotted the rural American landscape during the mid-20th century.

Mrs. Thornton, who grew up in Mantua, has a lifelong love of barns and has spent countless hours researching their history. She authored “The Barns of Shalersville” and is currently serving as the vice-president of the Freedom Township Historical Society. Mrs. Thornton and her husband, Pete, are active in the renovation of Freedom’s one-room schoolhouse.
