Florence Joanne Reid, 89, of Twinsburg, OH, formerly of Nelson Twp., OH, went home to her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 10, 2026. She was born October 18, 1936, in Washingtonville, PA, to the late Warren and Mildred (nee Hotchkiss) Ashenfelder.
She was raised in Northfield, Ohio. Florence met the love of her life, William Tyler Reid, Sr., at Northfield Baptist Church where they were married December 14, 1957. Florence is an author and has been writing since her mid-thirties. She self-published 13 of her novels that are available on Amazon. Her published books include her original manuscript titled, Fantabulous Experiment, additionally, a series of 4 murder mystery books in the Faldore Story that are centered in her hometown of Garrettsville, most notably her book titled, The Summerfest Murder Case, and a series of 8 books in the Remgeldon Story, a faraway land where kingdoms, kings, lords and dragons exist. Florence enjoyed reading and writing, playing Scrabble and all word games including Words with Friends. In her younger days, with her husband, they enjoyed working in their local church, teaching Sunday School, helping with the youth group and many times she would play the piano for the congregation. She was the mother of 9 children and said many times that she was blessed to have such a large family.
Florence will be deeply missed by her children, Wendy (Jeff) Severt, Sandra Dickey, Kenneth Reid, Jonathan Reid and Timothy (Christina Ivaskovic) Reid; grandchildren, Patrick Lucas, Matthew Lucas, Rachel Harris, Shari (Dan) Toth, Nathan Reid, Kristin (Ethan) Tibbs, Brandon Severt, Alyssa Severt, Keith Dickey, Adam Dickey, Lisa Dickey, Kim Dickey, Kenny (MacKenzie) Reid, Craig Reid, Abby (Julio) Croce, Taylor (Kristian) Snyder, Aidan Reid, Tai (Caitlin) Reid, Tristan (Tyler) Phaup, Marcus Reid, Vincent Reid, Nick Reid, Jay Reid, Ethan Reid, Zeus Reid, Karma Reid, Lilliana Ivaskovic; 26 great grandchildren, Katie, Hunter, Britney, Kristen, Matthew, Isabella, Gabriella, Julian, Jamari, Bradley, Garrett, Autumn, Ember, Ella, Mary-Jane, Aaron, Ronin, Avonlea, Jade, Alyssa, Ava, Lillith, Levi, Ksenia, Emmi, Eliana, as well as many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willam Tyler Reid, Sr.; sibling, David Ashenfelder; children, Rebecca (Mike) Keglovic, William Tyler Reid, Jr., James Warren Reid, and Richard Glenn Reid; grandchildren, Curtis and Mark Reid.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A funeral service followed at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Samuel Severt officiating.
