Ravenna – Do you love to write? Interested in working with other writers or learning more about writing in all its forms? Main Street Ravenna is hosting the first annual “Winter Writing Festival” on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 11a.m. to 4p.m.in collaboration with the Northeast Ohio Writing Centers Association (NEOWCA) Annual Conference being held at Ravenna High School on the same day.

Kicking off at 11a.m. the festival is sure to please attendees of all ages! Sponsored in part by Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Home of Ravenna, Eric Schlaubach State Farm Insurance, Ravenna City Schools, Mike Tontimonia, David Dix, and Bill Barber, the festival will feature writing workshops and presentations for kids, teens and adults.

The Winter Writing Festival will also feature a number of published authors bringing their experience and expertise to Ravenna. A panel of authors will present on the traditional publishing process as well as how to self-publish. Our workshop on writing comic books features two creators who have published with IDW, Image and Boom!

Children will have the chance to write their own fractured fairy tale, create beautiful poetry, and even write their own exciting short story. Professional writing workshops will also be available including strategies on how to make money writing, how to successfully write for the children’s market and how to develop a community magazine. And, high school juniors and seniors who will be attending college are invited to learn from college faculty about what makes good college-level writing.

Of course downtown merchants will be open for business and you will find other activities including a book pop-up shop featuring the Learned Owl Bookstore, a movie quote contest at Ravenna 7, and haiku poetry at Icy Blast. Raffle tickets will be sold at Reed Memorial Library and Bean and Baker Coffee Shop for prize drawings. The Wick Poetry Center from KSU will also be visiting our downtown with their River Stanza project. A poetry slam will end the day at Tavern 1888. Come on out to experience the fun!

Workshop registration and information on our writing contest can be found on Eventbrite, Facebook as well as our website www.mainstreetravenna.org/winter_writing_festival/
