This past weekend, golfer Scottie Scheffler displayed his extraordinary skill and grace under pressure by winning the British Open. Yet, what lingered even more than his win was his humility in recalling the ancient wisdom of King Solomon: “All is fleeting.” Scheffler reminded the world that trophies and glory may bring a moment’s high, but real satisfaction comes from something deeper—cherishing our families, living with purpose, and serving others.
It struck me how much this timeless perspective echoes in planning for the future. We all strive for victories. These wins deserve to be acknowledged and savored. But they shouldn’t define us. It’s important to pause and reflect on our wins, grateful for how far we’ve come while remembering that true fulfillment lies beyond the numbers.
Conversely, after losses, wisdom urges us to rest, recover, gain perspective, and invest our hope in the lasting fulfillment woven from the bonds we share with those we love, shared joys and griefs, and the positive impact we have on others. Plans are simply tools to support this richer, more meaningful life—not ends in themselves.
