Dr. Lydia Ellerhorst was born and raised in Garrettsville. She began her education at Mount Union, completing her dental degree at The Ohio State University. Afterward, she served in the United States Army Dental Corps from 2009 to 2014. “It was five years of hard work, caring for the dental needs of soldiers in and out of deployment.” During that time, she saw eight patients a day, five days a week. While in the Army Dental Corp, Dr. Ellerhorst also completed an Advanced General Dentistry Residency program at Fort Bragg NC, graduating in 2012. She and her family returned to Garrettsville shortly afterward. For the last seven years, she’s worked at a dental clinic in Courtland
Although she was tempted to launch her practice in 2020 when Dr. Pawlik closed his doors in Mantua, the timing wasn’t right for her family. At that time, her husband was in the midst of his residency and their four boys were very young. Her husband Jeffrey is now a family physician at TLC in Garrettsville, and all four boys are school age. So, when a deal recently fell through for an insurance company that planned to use that same space, “It was perfect timing,” Dr. Ellerhorst shared. “And I found the right people to join me,” she marveled.
“We’re happy to be back home,” Dr. Ellerhorst said. “I look forward to serving our local communities and families. It has been my honor to have this opportunity and to be so welcomed by everyone so far,” she marveled.
With so much going on, Dr. Ellerhorst credits her military experience, as well as the use of a specialized planner to keep her busy work and family lives in order. “I work the plan, make adjustments as needed, and keep moving forward,” she shared. “That’s how I got here,” she added.
For now, staff includes a hygienist and office assistant at the updated facility which includes four examination rooms. As the practice grows, the space has been designed to grow along with it.
