Edith Haines Sampson, 95, of Champion, OH, passed away on November 21, 2025 at Windsor House at Champion surrounded by her family.

 She was born September 23, 1930 in Leavittsburg, OH, daughter of the late Melvin Otto and Vina Doll Haines.

Edith graduated from Champion High School in 1948. She worked at the Warren Tribune Chronicle and later retired as a supervisor from the Akron Division of the Ohio Edison Company.

Edith was a founding member of the Champion Historical Society and also involved with the Garrettsville Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, writing, local history, genealogy and most of all, her family.

Surviving are four sons: Tom (Toni) Sampson of Columbus, OH, Randy (Lynette) Sampson of Champion, OH, Joe Sampson of Delaware, OH, and Ken (Cheryl) Sampson of Larkspur, CO; sister, Peggy Miller; brother, Gerald (Peggy) Haines; sister-in-law, Linda Haines; grandchildren, Nathan (Charmaine Sutton) Sampson, Leah (Joao) Simoes, Michael (Mary) Sampson, Amelia (Colin Gunby) Sampson and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph E. Sampson; sisters, Goldie Kerr, Ruth Wishart, Norma Webb, Thelma Winkle, Jane Molinatto and Erma Bayus; brothers, Edward, Melvin “Dean” and Donald Haines and grandchildren, Reid Sampson and Greg Bollinger.

The Family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Jodi’s Angels, Armstrong Memory Care and Windsor House at Champion for their compassionate care.

Visitation will take place on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 11AM to 1PM at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.

Service will be at 1PM December 5, 2025 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Champion Christian Church in Edith’s memory.

 Interment will follow in the Champion Township Cemetery, Champion, Ohio.
