Dorothy Lee McCoy

Dorothy “Dottie” Lee McCoy, 93, of Newton Falls, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. She was born October 27, 1931, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Arthur and Florence (nee Schear) Walker.

From a young age, she demonstrated a strong work ethic, beginning her first job at just 15 years old, weaving baskets. On April 15, 1950, Dottie married James McCoy, who affectionately nicknamed her “Mutze”, and together they started a loving family with 6 children. She became a dedicated school bus driver for the Ravenna City School District in Ravenna, OH, then embarked on a career at General Electric, also in Ravenna, as a lamp maker, where she worked for 16 years until her retirement. Dottie was a woman of many talents and passions. She had a deep love of horses, and was actively involved in showing horses and participating in sulky horse racing. Dottie’s artistic spirit shone through her baking, photography, and painting – whether in watercolors, acrylics, or oils. Her talent was recognized with several awards from the Ohio State Fair for her beautiful paintings. Dorothy’s legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

Dottie will forever be missed by her children, Sharon Suarez, of St. Mary’s, GA, Karen (Larry) Cannon, of Atwater, OH, Terry (Malee) McCoy of Kissimmee, FL, Jack (Linda) McCoy, of Pt. Charlotte, FL, and James “Bo” (Pam) McCoy, of Ravenna, OH; grandchildren, Shawn McCoy, Thomas (Lisa) Cannon, James (Ada) Cannon, Shannon (Alan) Sasser, Jason (Rena) Davis, Jamie Lynn Thrift, Amalee (David) McCoy, Melanie (Ryan) McCoy, and Kaitlyn DeAnn Douglas; great grandchildren, Kayla McCoy-Lewis, Dustin McCoy, Nicholas McCoy, Michael Jaramillo, Miranda Jaramillo, Brandon Sasser, Ryder Thrift, Alaina Sasser, Oliver Cannon, and Henry Cannon; great great granddaughters, Kenlie Lewis and Stella Douglas; long-time friend, Norma Captain, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James W. McCoy; daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Douglas; granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Douglas; brothers, Charles Walker and Jack Walker, and long-time friend, John Porter.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A funeral service began at the funeral home at 12:00 pm, with Terry McCoy officiating. Dottie was  then taken to Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Twp., OH, where she will be lovingly laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, OH, as well as Affinity Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
