Mantua – At the last Mantua-Shalersville Fire District meeting, the board witnessed the swearing in of full-time firefighter David Belknap. Belknap, a Windham resident, is a 2012 graduate of Windham High School. He worked for three years as a part-time firefighter prior to earning the full-time position.
In other news, Chief Roosa shared the results of the department’s 2018 Incident Report with board members. Roosa noted that the department responded to 1,386 incidents, which included EMS calls, fires, and vehicle crashes. He noted that the busiest month of the year was December, with 137 runs. In all, he noted the department received 40 fewer calls in 2018 than were received in the previous year.
Lastly, the board directed Fiscal Officer Ashlee Hawkins to follow up with the Auditor’s Office in order to determine how to proceed with the unclaimed monies of roughly $660, which have been in the district’s account for some time. Hawkins’ agreed to do so; her monthly report was accepted, as was her End-of-Year report.
The next regularly scheduled MSFD meeting will be held on Monday, February 11th at 6 pm; residents are encouraged to attend.
