Daniel Grafton 89 of Freedom Township passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024. Born in Hammondsville, Jefferson County, Ohio, on October 6, 1934 to Daniel E. and Verna E. (Householder) Grafton. Grandson of Frank R. and Mary Edna (Shirley) Grafton; and James F. and Hannah L. (Noling) Householder.
After he attended kindergarten in Hammondsville, Ohio, his mother & father brought him to Windham, Ohio where he graduated from Windham High School in 1953. His mother & father went to work at the Ravenna Arsenal and together raised 6 children. Dan also worked at the Ravenna Arsenal at the age of 16, carrying sand in a wheel barrow for millwrights.
After he married Barbara (Peppeard) Strawman in 1954, they moved to Freedom, and he began working for Chrysler, retiring after 45 years of service.
Dan was very committed to his community. He coached Freedom Hot Stove baseball and went on to become president for over 20 year. He loved working with the children. He said “If they play ball they wouldn’t have time to get into trouble.” Most recently he was very hands-on with the Freedom Historical Society and spent several years on the ‘steering committee’.
Please join Dan’s family for a brief Memorial Service to honor his life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a service immediately following, at Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Drakesburg Cemetery. Online condolences at carlsonfuneralhomes.com
