Mantua – Superintendent, David Toth recently announced that the Crestwood Local School Board approved a contract to hire Cynthia Ducca as the new principal at Crestwood Primary for the 2013-2014 academic year. According to Superintendent Toth, Ms. Ducca has an extensive teaching and administrative background, and most recently served as the principal of Berkshire Elementary. While at Berkshire Elementary, Ms. Ducca oversaw grades kindergarten through the sixth grade. The Berkshire District received an Excellent District Rating from the Ohio State Board of Education for the 2011 – 2012 school year.
In other news, the Board received an updated timeline on the district-wide improvements being undertaken by Chevron this summer.  The projects, which range from building relamp projects to updating heating & cooling systems and roofing projects, have seen slight delays, due to materials availability and weather conditions. According to Bill Andexler, who oversees the project for the district, these projects won’t be completed prior to the start of the school year as originally anticipated. However, Mr. Andexler has assured the board that the students’ school days will not be interrupted, as Chevron will complete the project after school hours and on weekends.
Lastly, the district will be seeking revised bids for the outdoor pavilion project, which will be located in the sports field in front of the Crestwood Primary and Intermediate parking lot. The pavilion will be primarily used as a shelter for children to exit the field in case of adverse weather conditions. For more information on the bid criteria, contact Treasurer Jill Rowe at the Board office.
The next regularly scheduled School Board Meeting will be on August 5th at 7 pm in the Crestwood Primary School Music Room.
