Mantua – The Crestwood School District is undertaking a massive project to enhance air quality and air flow in the 7-12 building. Work on this federally funded effort began during summer break, with the remainder to be completed during the holiday breaks throughout the school year with final completion slated for next summer.

Thus far, asbestos abatement and testing has already been completed, while electrical work is 75% complete. Work on the HVAC system is 65% complete; remaining work includes installing outdoor and rooftop equipment and ductwork, controls, and system start up and testing. When complete, the effort will eventually include air conditioning, electrical power upgrades, lighting upgrades and ceiling tile improvements to the rear of the facility.

In other news, students’ families have been informed that children will be administered a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or tablet on Monday, September 19th and Friday, September 30th. Scores from the tests will help teachers check student performance, using results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

According to Superintendent Dr. David Toth, MAP Growth tests are unique, adapting to each child’s responses to measure their specific skill level. As an example, if the child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what each child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Each school year, students in grades Kindergarten through 10th grade will take these tests three times per year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Following each testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.

Lastly, the Crestwood School Board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 7:30 pm, at the Crestwood Central Office, which is located at 10880 John Edward Drive, Mantua, Ohio 44255.
The next regular Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 7 pm in the Crestwood Local Schools Central Office on John Edwards Drive. The meeting will also be livestreamed; for more information, visit crestwoodschools.org.
