Mantua – In his Superintendent’s Communications, Dr. David Toth congratulated educators Janice May and Sue McClure on each receiving a Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator Award for the 2021-2022 school year.

The board was pleased to accept several generous donations, including one from the estate of Robert A. Corbett in the amount of $334,000. The board also accepted $8,000 from the Crestwood Band Boosters to be used for the purchase of tubas for the High School Band program. Lastly, the district accepted $200 toward the purchase of American and State flags, poles, and stands from American Legion Post #193.
In other news, the school board accepted the resignation of several employees, including District Treasurer Sarah Palm, bus driver Sandra Wagner, speech pathologist Michelle Donias, and guidance counselor Emily Smith. In addition, several teachers have tendered their resignations, including Holly Cartwright, Sarah Duke, Tessa Foster, Rachel Grabowski, Jessica Jones, Jennifer Stevens, and Jo Walsh-Cobb.

In other news, the board was pleased to extend one-year contracts to the following teachers: Jade Bretz, Jordyn Burke, Edlyn (Jeanie) Wills, Jordan Johnson, Madison Leventry, Shelby Starkey, Gabrielle DeLaat, and Ashley Foulkes. The board also approved the hiring of bus driver Megan Fields and long-term substitute teacher Michaela Brugmann.


In related news, the board agreed to increase the pay rate for substitute teachers to $110 per day for the first five days, and $125 per day for each day thereafter. Lastly, the board approved an increase in the cost of preschool tuition for the 2022-23 school year. The previous rate of $1,350 per year for typical students will increase to $1,600 per year, with a reduction of $100 if tuition is paid prior to the start of the school year.


The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be held in the District Administration Building on John Edwards Drive on Tuesday, June 12th at 7 pm.
