Mantua – The new school year brings lots of new faces throughout all the buildings at Crestwood Schools. The district’s new staff includes CHS Assistant Principal Angelina Berilla, Guidance Counselor Casey Vastag, Intervention Specialist Emily Carney, Band Director Angela Adkins, Choir/Band Director Nicole Nero, and CMS Principal Edward Kosek. In addition, the following teachers joined the district as well: Sarah Boyer, Erica Irvine, Devan Kobak, Destiny Prusky, Brett Rodgers, and Kristina Simer.
In other news, Crestwood Schools are soliciting donations to move forward on a greenhouse project. The project, conceived by students in the American Experience Academy class, won a grant in the amount of $99,976 from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board in 2016. The proposed greenhouse will feature aquaponic growing techniques, whereby nutrient-rich water from fish tanks will be used to grow edible plants, made available to the local food pantry, with excess sold to the community. The project is currently $40,000 short of the lowest bid; subsequently, Academy students are seeking donations to make their dream a reality. For more information, or to make a donation, visit: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jhgmjgreenhouse?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet
On their Gofundme page, Academy students implore, “Any donation is appreciated immensely, as our class and community is looking at this greenhouse as a stepping stone of progression into our future. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration; this simply could not be done without you.”
Lastly, Crestwood voters will have a renewal levy on the ballot for November 5, 2019. The Emergency Levy will be at 4.27 mill and will not cost the taxpayer any additional money. It is a fixed sum at $1,400,000 and was originally passed in 2012 and renewed once in 2016. This levy is for a four-year period and will begin in January 2020 if renewed.
The next regularly scheduled Crestwood School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 10th at 7 pm in the CHS library.
