The Crestwood High School “Scarlet Guard” Marching Band proudly represented Portage County when they performed at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals this past Saturday November 9, 2019 at Brunswick High School! The band performed an outstanding and energetic final performance that earned them the highest rating of an overall Superior Rating at the state event.
The band’s 2019 competition show was titled “Bright Ideas” and features music by J.S. Bach, “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka, and “My Songs Know What You Did” by Fall Out Boy. The show has dance choreography, soloists, lots of percussion and many “light bulb” references to innovative moments in history. The band is led by the student leadership of Drum Major Ally Sabol and Band President Max Maretka. The Crestwood High School Band program is under new leadership this year with experienced band director Angela Adkins, who previously taught with the Waterloo Local School District for 18 years.
This past fall season the Crestwood Scarlet Guard earned many awards and accomplishments including: 1st Place in Class at Louisville, Revere, and Brunswick, along with awards for Best Visual, Percussion, and Colorguard.The Crestwood Band program is maintained through tremendous support of the Crestwood Local Schools and the Crestwood Band Boosters. This accomplishment continues to place the Crestwood High School Band program among the elite top 15% of band programs in the state to qualify for the Ohio Music Education Association Marching Band Adjudicated Event. The Crestwood Band program has a long tradition of excellence in music education and this is the 33rd time the band has qualified for the State Marching Event and 13th time they have received an overall rating of Superior! Many thanks go to the Crestwood Local Schools, students, parents, alumni and community members involved that have supported the Scarlet Guard this past season. The band is looking forward to the rest of the year making music in many of the other musical offerings at Crestwood High School and continuing in the tradition of musical excellence.
