Crestwood Cuts Ribbon on Student Resource Room

730

At a ceremony last Tuesday, Crestwood Local Schools held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the district’s new Center for Academic Resources and Educational Supports. Dubbed Crestwood CARES, the space will serve as a hands-on learning space for Crestwood’s special education students.

According to Sherry Peters, Director of Pupil Services, the living skills room will be used to help students practice daily living skills, including meal prep and kitchen safety, job skills, housekeeping, and independent living. The project was accomplished with the assistance of Erica Irvine and Amanda Stanley, both intervention specialists at Crestwood’s 7-12 campus.

Peters thanked the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities, who provided a $5,000 donation, as well as the Crestwood School Board and Superintendent Dr. David Toth for helping make the Crestwood Cares room come to life. Renovation of the room located at the district’s administration building was made possible by financial and in-kind donations from the Portage County Board of DD, Streetsboro Home Depot, and Sierra Gebler.
