Kids and their families are invited to join the Hiram Police Department officers on Saturday, August 20th for a fun-filled day fishing at Camp Asbury. “No fishing license needed, just bring your favorite fishing rod, a friend or two and the willingness to have fun!” noted Patrolman Anthony Yoder, Community Affairs Officer at the Hiram Police Department.
There’s no need to register for this event, though a limited number of rods and reels are available, so bring them if you’ve got them. Basic fishing tackle is also provided. The event starts at 9 am and continues through 1 pm. A complimentary lunch will be provided by Haylett’s Save 4 Store, and event T-shirts will be available while supplies last. Parking is available at Camp Asbury’s main entrance (10776 Asbury Road in Hiram). A people-mover will be on hand to transport visitors to the pond, making the event more accessible.
According to Yoder, “Cops and Kids Fishing Day creates an opportunity for Police officers and the community to come close together for a common purpose of fishing together while enjoying the outdoors. This event also encourages families to participate together to form strength and unity.”
Earlier this summer, the Hiram Police Department held their annual July 4th Bike Rodeo and bike decorating contest in conjunction with the Hiram Fire Department. The event took place shortly before the July 4th parade and fireworks display on Sunday, July 3rd. At least 60 children participated in the bike rodeo and parade, which was held in the Hiram Christian Church parking lot. All participants had the chance to win prizes, with a new bicycle being given to the grand prize winner.
