2015 Calendars Available

The Newton Township Cemetery Association calendar for 2015, featuring photos of the tornado damage that destroyed property thirty years ago in Newton Falls, may be purchased from Art Effects, Newton Falls Printing, Nussles Florist, Roods Wallpaper and Paint and from association members or by calling 330.872.0236 or 330.872.5452. The calendar price is $10.

 

Help JAG Elementary PTO turn Trash in Cash

The JAG Elementary PTO is collecting used ink and laser cartridges, old cell phones and small electronics.  If you are just throwing these items away, let our organization recycle them for you to help raise money for our students.  There will be  collection bins at JAG Elementary School, Middle School, Board Office and Garrettsville Library.  Any local businesses interested in donating on a regular basis can set up a pick up by contacting Holly at 330-527-0023.

 

Overeaters Anonymous

Do you worry about the way you eat?  Overeaters Anonymous (OA) may have the answer for you. OA is a fellowship of people recovering from compulsive overeating. No weigh-ins, dues or fees. Wine Tasting

There will be a wine tasting Aug 23rd from 7-11 at Newton Falls City Park (inside the community center if raining). All proceeds will benefit the Newton Falls Park & Recreation. Cost is $20 per couple or $12 per person, this includes one souvenir glass and 3 tasting tickets per person. Lil Paws Winery, Mastropietro Winery and Myrrdin Winery will be featured.

Pig Roast & Church Picnic

Faith Evangelical Free Church pig roast and picnic will be Aug 23rd starting at 1pm. Everyone is invited! Horseshoes, cornhole and more, plus music and fun for the whole family! Please bring a dish to share. The church is located at 10585 Windham-Parkman Rd., Garrettsville.

 

Memorial Music Festival

5th Annual Memorial Music Festival will be August 23rd beginning at 2:00pm at Nelson Ledge Estates Pavilion.  Come and enjoy a day of free music, food and memories!! Bring a picture of your loved one to place on the Memorial Wall. Stuff-A-Bus

Mantua American Legion Post 193 will be sponsoring Stuff-A-Bus with school supplies along with canned goods and nonperishable items for the 4-C’s food cupboard. The bus will be located at the Crestwood High School Stadium in connection with the Crestwood Community Day to be held August 24th from 5 to 7 P.M. All donations are greatly appreciated.

 

BBQ Dinner and Fall Preview

James A. Garfield High School will be holding its first annual fall preview night on Aug 24th at 6:00 P.M. The event will be an opportunity to meet the 2014 fall athletes and coaches and to see a performance by the Garfield Marching Pride. The preview will be held at newly renovated JAG Field and is free to attend. Prior to the preview, the JAG All Sports Boosters will be hosting a BBQ Dinner on the front lawn of James A. Garfield High School. The BBQ will begin at 4:00 and will cost $10 per person. Payments can be made at the time of arrival. We ask anyone interested in attending the BBQ Dinner to please RSVP via email at jagboosters@jagschools.org (we are just looking for an estimate on how many people are going to attend).

 

Free Water Well Monitoring

Concerned Citizens Ohio/ Hiram free monthly private water well monitoring using Sierra Club meters to test for “indicators” of water quality in the Community Room of the Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Rd., Hiram on Aug 25th at 7pm. For accurate readings, your sample should be taken as directly from the well as possible – before any treatment and within an hour before we test it. Community Center @ Mantua Center

Free and open to all, the Community Center at Mantua Center is open Tuesdays from 9:30 to mid-afternoon, with a variety of activities.  Watercolor group starts at 9:30, sewing projects all morning, jigsaw puzzle throughout the day.  You can bring your a project of your own to work on, or just have some coffee and chat.  At noon we share a potluck lunch, with everyone bringing food for the buffet. When everyone but those in charge have left, we lock the doors until 5:00, when we re-open for our “Don’t Eat Alone Supper” at 5:30, with a special invitation to anyone who eats way too many meals without companionship.  We’re going to try something new and provide the evening meal instead of asking people to bring potluck, and hope that improves attendance.  So don’t eat alone Tuesday night,  come join us.  Bring a friend or make some new ones!

Swim Lesson Sign Ups

Looking for swim lessons for your children? Well look no further than Hiram College.  The start of the school years brings a new opportunity for the community’s youth to participate in the Hiram College Water Dog Swim Lessons.  Get lessons from the college’s finest once a week for a five week period.  Each lesson lasts forty-five minutes, with an additional fifteen minutes for your child to gain more confidence in the water.    Ages four and up welcomed.  Sign up August 30 from 2:30-4:30 at the swim pool or online at www.hiramterriers.com/sports/swimdive/swimlessons.  Lesson times are from 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6pm Sunday afternoons on September 7, 14, 21, 28, and October 5.  Cost is fifty dollars.  For more information, please contact Brian O’Neill at 330.569.5343.

Mantua Potato Stomp Race and Fun Run

The 36th Annual Potato Stomp race will take place on September 6th.  The Potato Stomp is a classic road race through the scenic streets of Mantua Village and the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley.  There is a one mile Fun Run that begins at 8:30am. The 3.5 mile and 9 mile races begin at 9am. All races start at Crestwood High school.  Fun Run registration on race day is $8 with no shirt/$15 including shirt.  Race day entry fee for the nine mile race is $15/$20 and for the 3.5 mile race $13/$18.  STAR Therapy will pay the entrance fee for any Crestwood student.  Entry forms are available at Advanced Rehab and Jake’s Restaurant in Mantua.  Registration can also be done online at Active.com.  For race and/or registration information, call 330-842-0856 or email rosalief@yahoo.com
