Comin’ For Ya, Martha!

103

Well, I am sure that Mart is shakin’ in her shoes (the brand new ones–Skechers, dontcha know) when she contemplates my gardening efforts.

Martha Stewart has more than one residence, so she has plenty of opportunity to landscape to her heart’s content–and plenty of minions to haul the up-scale compost to designated areas, too, I’ll bet.. I admire that…wish that I could do the same too, but that’s not happening. Have to say that I do admire Martha, if nothing else for the sheer breadth of her interests and accomplishments (I also think that she got sent to the slammer mostly because she was too “uppity” a woman in the business world, but that’s just me. While she was there she led classes and taught people things; how’s that for “uppity”). Martha also has just about any sort of animal you might ever find on a farm…and some you wouldn’t. I’ll bet there is a rose or a peony or a geranium or some such bloom named for her; maybe she has a whole field or bed or something just for her namesake blossoms. Now there’s immortality of a sort. I’ll never make it to that stage, but I have been planting perennials and trees.

That’s what I did this week. I am not a good planter of things; I expect green stuff to start showing its face…or leaves or whatever… within two days…five, tops. Not working out real well so far, especially in places where various critters are looking for snack materials–bulbs, leaves, you name it. My best grow spots, so far, are underneath where the bird feeders were all winter. Maybe the deer will come back for that; they were here during the dead of winter chowing down on the seeds.

I did do a good deed that was greenery-related–I went around pulling out garlic-mustard, an invasive plant. Go, thou and do likewise.
