Mantua – Crestwood Intermediate mathematics teacher Jo Walsh-Cobb was one of twelve Northeast Ohio educators to be recently recognized as Outstanding Educators by the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM). Mathematics

Kathleen Maretka from the Hiram College Mathematics Department nominated Cobb for her work in mathematics at the elementary level.

The keynote speaker at last week’s award ceremony was Robert Q Berry III, PhD. Dr. Berry is the current President of The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The NCTM advocates for high-quality mathematics teaching and learning for each and every student, and is the world’s largest mathematics education organization throughout the United States and Canada.

“What was so exciting to me is that Crestwood teachers have taken the initiative and are already using many of the things Dr. Berry shared with us in his speech,” Cobb marveled. “I feel lucky to be supported by my fellow teachers and their math brains!” she added.

In similar news, Cobb was recognized as Employee of the Month at the May 14th Crestwood School Board meeting, along with Cheryl Brugmann, kindergarten teacher at Crestwood Primary School.
