CHS Students Join Community Members for Annual Fall Clean-Up

3069

Mantua – If you happened to be out walking or driving through Mantua on the morning of October 2, you might have seen several Crestwood High School students throughout the downtown area and Buchert Memorial Park working alongside members of the Downtown Mantua Revitalization Corporation (DMRC). Each year, students who participate in various service oriented classes and clubs volunteer part of their day to give back to their community.  This year was no exception.

Approximately seventy students who serve as members of the high school’s Career Based Intervention class (CBI), Culture Club, National Honor Society (NHS), Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Student Council, and Junior-Senior Seminar all joined efforts to help spruce up the town and show some school spirit by decorating storefronts for Homecoming Spirit Week, which begins the week of October 7.  Dr. Edie Benner, president of the DMRC, coordinated the Fall Clean-Up Day with CHS teachers and DMRC volunteers.  The students took part in washing windows, pulling weeds, cleaning playground equipment, sweeping, raking, trimming bushes, and picking up trash.

Members of the DMRC commented about what a great annual event this is and how nice it is to see so many students show pride in their hometown. Several curious visitors at the local coffee shop also remarked about the unique and uplifting experience it was to see so many students and teachers outside helping their community.

CHS Culture Club advisor Rachel Grabowski commented, “It’s always important to get out of the classroom and build character and relationships with your students.  It’s always amazing to see what hard workers our students are and how much they care about their community.  They inspire me to be a better person!”

This is a great day of bringing students and community members together for a unified cause.  Thank you to all the volunteers who participated!
