Middlefield – On Dec. 13, more than 100 employees gathered in Parkman and were treated to the annual Christmas luncheon by the leadership team at Chem Technologies. Chem Technologies, Ltd., is a manufacturer of cutting-edge custom mixing and chemical dispersions and blends located in Middlefield.

Every year since inception in 2001, CEO Jim Schill takes this opportunity to share insights, updates, appreciation and part of company profits with his growing workforce. “This is my favorite day of the year,” said Schill in his annual address. “I am immensely proud of Chem Technologies.”

Now well-past the age of retirement, Schill continues to keep his hand on the pulse of the company. He explained that he and Randy Vancura, Chief Operating Officer, take time to review every bonus as determined by a calculation based on hours worked and employee performance.
Vancura recapped 2019 highlights noting that the company has positioned itself as one of highest quality rubber and plastics suppliers. “It’s hard to believe that when we started, we had 22 employees and we now have 108.” He shared with the group a recent experience.

He had expressed to a client that Chem Tech product prices would have to increase due to raw material cost increases. After some discussion about other alternatives, the client was said he was willing to pay the increase in order to maintain the quality product they get from Chem Tech.
“Chem Tech experienced record sales in the first two quarters of this year,” said Vancura. “I am cautiously optimistic,” he added. “2020 should be a very good year for us.” This year, installation of another mixing line will be added in Plant 2 on the east side of Middlefield.

Not only does Chem Tech share their substantial profits with the Chem Tech team, they pay a living wage and 100 percent of the health insurance premiums for the entire family.
Jim Schill reiterated this year that Chem Tech is not for sale. He shared how past experience had proven that most public companies seldom care enough about their employees. Schill has put in place policies that will protect Chem Technologies and preserve the company model.
