Charlene Rohal, a dedicated 4-H volunteer from Portage County, has achieved a milestone worthy of celebration. She was inducted into the prestigious Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame on March 8th at the Ohio 4-H Conference in Columbus. It is in recognition of her outstanding service, commitment, and impact on the 4-H community and youth over four decades.
Celebrating her 40th year as a 4-H volunteer, Charlene continues to make a difference through her work with the Edinburg Seambusters 4-H Club. Beyond her work with the Seambusters, Charlene’s efforts extend into other essential programs, as she also dedicates her time as an Ohio Master Clothing Educator Volunteer and a member of the Portage County 4-H Life Skills Committee.

The Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the 4-H program and reflect the values of service, education, and community engagement. Charlene’s induction into this esteemed group affirms her lasting legacy within one of Ohio’s largest youth development organizations.
Charlene supports youth from all clubs, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer guidance on any 4-H projects. Her positive attitude is truly infectious, and she has a unique talent for making meetings both educational and enjoyable. One of her innovative teaching methods includes creating interactive boards with fabric swatches, encouraging youth to engage their senses and use deductive reasoning to identify fabric types.
Sewing, as Charlene emphasizes, is an art—a skill that many adults lack. She even inspires parents of her 4-H participants to learn sewing, guiding them through fabric and pattern selection suited to their skill levels. Additionally, Charlene collaborates closely with the leadership group of her club and the Portage County 4-H Life Skills Committee to ensure that operations run seamlessly. Her commitment ensures that the mission of “making the best better” continues for generations to come.
Outside of 4-H, Charlene is incredibly active in her church, St. Matthew Parish Catholic Church in Ellet, Ohio. She serves as a weekly cantor, leading the congregation in song during services, and also takes on the role of a reader. Charlene is a dedicated member of her church’s choir, where she not only sings during Mass but also participates in special services, including funerals. Her passion for music has taken her far, as she is a member of the combined national church choir that toured 14 European cathedrals, sharing their voices in worship.
Beyond her musical contributions, Charlene devotes her time annually to mission trips with the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP), where she helps build homes for those in need. This year, she has also been dedicated to her personal project, “Hugs of Caring,” sewing quilts to provide comfort to children entering foster care in her community. Her spirit of service and compassion extends into every aspect of her life, showcasing her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
Charlene’s recognition not only highlights her years of dedication but also serves as an inspiration to the entire 4-H community. Her achievements demonstrate the power of volunteerism and the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many.
Congratulations to Charlene Rohal on this well-deserved honor and for continuing to make a difference in the lives of 4-H youth!
