Celebrating Mantua’s Art & Trails

Mantua – Last weekend, the Village of Mantua was full of folks looking to enjoy the seasonable weather while they enjoyed art and outdoor activities. For art, wine, and food lovers, the 10th annual Art on the Hill event provided visitors with food stands galore, from kettle corn to barbeque, as well as four local wineries poring wine by the glass. In addition, over 70 artisans offered their wares, from glass to leather goods, book art to jewelry and everything in between.

Later that afternoon, Andrew Bashaw, Executive Director of the Buckeye Trail Association was on hand to welcome the village as the 10th Buckeye Trail Town. The festivities took place at the bridge at the Headwaters Trailhead. Bashaw commended the village for becoming a Trail Town, welcoming Buckeye Trail travelers with hospitality during their visits to the area. He noted the opportunity this partnership provides, the prospect “for us to do more and more over time.” Mantua Village Mayor Linda Clark concurred, sharing; “This is an excellent opportunity for your community.”

Shortly thereafter, the group reconvened nearby to check out the Headwaters Trail-themed mural adjacent to the trailhead. The mural was a project spearheaded by local art teacher Eric Head, designed by his A-Team art club comprised of middle school artists. The group was aided by members of the Downtown Mantua Revitalization Corporation (DMRC), and painted on private property.

Head, who was unable to attend the dedication event, shared, “I’m so proud of my A-Team. It was a huge task, with hard work – and a big accomplishment. Not many middle school kids can say they painted a mural in their city or town. I hope you enjoyed your experience.”
