Thanks to an amazing turn-out of care and concern (including the arrival of “the Squad” at the conclusion of the early service at Garrettsville United Methodist Church, manned in part by a former student behaving in a most professional manner as he stuck sensors of various sorts on portions of my bod that I’m sure he never thought he’d see, well-preserved though they are.), I am “up and about” (about a “a pint low “ on Monday, actually) at last check. Did kind of disturb my routine for a bit but that’s something that ought to happen every so often anyway.

See, this was all on account of an attack of food poisoning–not my cooking, please note.

Wowzah ! The last time that I had such an episode, it took place at a band show in Aurora. Their band shows are always excellent but at that one, I was particularly impressed by the excellent waste receptacles…and the polite behavior of the bystanders. A life-saving ride home (not on the band bus) finished that one off and I was sorta hoping that the experience would not be repeated. Alas, like time & tide, traumatized stomachs wait for no man. There were some new folks in the pews (That just begs for a snappy line, but I simply can’t do it.) that day and I did wonder if they’d ever come back after such an event, but they did indeed–now that’s faith. Bless your hearts, all of you out there who inquired after my health, made phone calls, picked up prescriptions, sat in the ER (Now there’s a fun Sunday afternoon!),offered food (so soon? It was calming, to say the least–good stuff), and generally looked after my welfare, damaged as it might have been.

So, now it’s on to open the football season. Look for me up in the box… I’ll be the paler one squinting into the sun. Listen for the rousing notes of the Marching Pride. We’re off for another year. Try to keep up.

All of this puts me in mind of that song–Beatles was it?–”I get by with a little help from my friends”. Thanks all.
