Burton Walter Kohut

Burton Walter Kohut, (83), of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Burt was born to the late Joseph and Helen Kohut on March 1, 1940. He grew up in Newton Falls, Ohio, before leaving to serve in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963 where he enjoyed stations in California and Alaska. After completing his service, he went on to work for General Electric in Cleveland, where he met his wife, Dorothy. They were married in Garrettsville, Ohio, and eventually settled in Wisconsin where they raised their family before returning to Ohio later in life.

Burt loved hunting and fishing—especially with close friends and family members, exploring new places and spending time with his children. He had a quick wit, gentle spirit, and was devoted to his family.

Burt is survived by his daughter, Kimberley (John) Axiotis of Hixson, Tennessee; his son, David (Jill) Kohut of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his granddaughters, Lauren and Rebekah; his brother, Fred (Loretta) Kohut of Libertyville, Illinois, and his sister, Barbara (Roger) Carrier of Lewis Center, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy, his sisters, Nancy and Frances, and his brother, James.

A memorial service to honor both Burt and Dorothy will be held in Ohio later this year. Please share your thoughts and memories at chat tanooganorthchapel.com.
