Book Club to Meet in Garrettsville

924

The Book Discussion Club of the Garrettsville branch of the Portage County District Library will meet on Tuesday January 16, 2018, in the library meeting room from 5-6 p.m.
The month’s selection is The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann.
In May of 1925 Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett disappeared in a Brazilian jungle while searching for an ancient lost city that Fawcett called “Z.” He had been accompanied by his son Jack, and one of Jack’s friends, Raleigh Rimmell.
In the novel The Lost City of Z David Grann shares information gathered by perusing Colonel Percy Fawcett’s journals archived at the Royal Geographical Society in London and also by reading a secret diary, kept by a descendent of the Colonel. As his own obsession with Fawcett and the lost city grows, Grann goes further; he forms an expedition to retrace Fawcett’s movements in the jungle. Grann meets other explorers, an anthropologist, and several Amazon Indian tribes with legends of Fawcett. Was there a lost city or a myth?
Patrons may sign up for the Book Discussion Club at the Reference desk, where copies of the book are available.
