The 2020 Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Outing has been cancelled due to the coronavirus.
The annual golf outing event was successful due to the amazing support received not only from the golfers but from small local businesses, from the golf course, to restaurants, car repair, manufacturing, transportation, on and on to all of you reading this message. We realize that many of you are struggling to keep your doors open and pay your employees and this is where your focus needs to be. For this reason, as well as for the safety of everyone, the decision was made to cancel the golf outing this year.
BBBS is already looking forward to next year and being able to see everyone at our 2021 golf outing so please keep us in mind! Until then, if you would like to support our mentoring program please keep reading.
The need to raise funds for the one-to-one mentoring program. During the Covid 19 closures, our Bigs and Littles were having virtual meetings, doing everything from chatting, to playing games, working on homework and watching movies together. Our match support specialists were contacting all matches twice as much as normally required to help them connect without being together. This was necessary because we know how important these relationships are to these children.
Born with potential, each child has opportunities to grow up and become productive and positive members of our society. But the many barriers are real and even magnified by this pandemic; poverty and dangerous neighborhoods; substance abuse struggles within families; lack of a role model to show a different path; loneliness and bullying that is so often experienced.
We know the difference our Bigs make. The friend to talk with. A guiding force. Someone to turn to when life becomes harsh or when advice is sought. Someone to defend the potential inherent in every young person.
It is important to continue building and supporting these relationships. If you are able to help at this time, donations and sponsorships in any amount are truly appreciated at all times. Some examples of how your donations can be directed include:
• $25 provides for a criminal background check for a prospective volunteer
• $100 provides handbooks for all new matches for one year
• $800 sponsors a match for one year
