Attorney John McGahee Jr. returns home

1690
John McGahee Jr.

John left Windham to join the military, where he was selected as a member of the Air Force Intelligence Agency.

During his ten-year enlistment, he often told others that they would not pass Windham on their way to another city, but “they must be going there intentionally.” John saw the world while serving his country. He was stationed in California, England, and Japan. Additionally, he completed numerous deployments to the Middle East.

After serving 10 years in the Air Force, John made his home in New Jersey where he worked for Lockheed Martin – the world’s largest defense contractor, as an engineer. However, he felt the tug of the law and the opportunity to serve the public.

John moved back to Ohio – but hours south of where he grew up to join the Ohio Department of Corrections. His drive to excel led him through many positions in his tenure there. John started as an officer and received several promotions. While working full-time, John enrolled at Capital University School of Law evening program. Upon graduation John worked as an Assistant Delaware County Prosecutor.

John relishes the opportunity to meet people from many walks of life, while learning about their experiences and cultures. In doing so he has learned significant things about himself. He believes his mental toughness was derived from his participation in Windham athletics. During difficult times, he would often call upon the fact his football team would practice two times a day in July, voluntarily run forty, forty-yard dashes without a water break because they didn’t believe another team was tough enough to do the same.

Public service became the running theme in his life. Now, he felt it was time to come home and serve his local community.

He has done that. John has opened his own practice in Portage county. He’s located at 409 South Prospect street in Ravenna. John shares a building with the esteemed attorney Lou Bertrand. The drive to help those who are in need has brought John full circle.
