While we wait for the warm weather to make its way to us, we need to get our houses prepared.  In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors. In fact the EPA’s Office of Research and Development’s “Total Exposure Assessment Methodology (TEAM) Study” found levels of about a dozen common organic pollutants to be 2 to 5 times higher inside homes than outside, regardless of whether the homes were located in rural or highly industrial areas.  Did you know that mold can grow inside your air conditioner unit?  With air circulating constantly throughout your air conditioning unit and through your home, mold spores are picked up and pushed into your living areas.  Mold is a serious concern for homeowners who rely on air conditioners during the summer months. Remember though, mold is preventable. By maintaining your HVAC unit and monitoring the humidity levels, this can help to prevent mold from growing in your air conditioning unit and polluting your air.
