Ravenna – Whether you get artistic expression from a Monet or a Picasso piece of art in a museum, from a 1980’s MTV music video, or from a picture you have drawn yourself and had tattooed on your upper right arm — you are an artist! You have the ability to express yourself! That is what the upcoming tattoo fashion show in Ravenna is meant to highlight. Lovelife and self expression are all inclusive when it comes to what Ravenna hopes to share and portray to its surrounding communities.
On Saturday August 3rd, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM you will be able to witness a block party proudly presented by one of Ravenna’s own new businesses, War Horse Ink, along with Terry Montz. Come and literally see all our expressive and growing community has to offer! If you are a World War II veteran with Rosie the Riveter on your forearm, mother of four with all their birthdays tattooed on your back, or someone who has never had a tattoo at all, come and experience the delight and unique perspective that models will be presenting as they show off hair and clothing also done by local businesses.
Sommer Shaw, owner of Roots and Wings Boutique, currently located at Downtown Betty’s Salon. “Depending on where they want to show off… like if they have a leg (tattoo), arm piece or back piece, I have hand-picked a variety of items between shorts and sleeveless, so they can show different parts of their body. And I am trying to keep within the wild theme to make it rebelious — or animal print, which is on trend right now.” she said. Both Downtown Betty’s and the Roots & Wings pop up boutique are located at 120 N. Chestnut St. in Ravennna.
Many different businesses have come together very quickly to put on this inspiring event that will represent untold stories from those who are underrepresented within our culture, yet are still a part of our burgeoning community. Such as Tina Reynolds, owner of Salon Next, an edgy and artsy venue that will be doing the hair for models in the Fashion Tattoo Show. She is located at 247 South Chestnut Street. “We love doing anything for the community,” she said. “We will be doing meet-and-greets (during the block party) to make the community aware of what our local business has to offer.”
Reynolds expressed that she wants to show how Ravenna has been cleaning itself up so guests remember it with positive thoughts. “We want them to continue to come back to family friendly events”, she said.
Lauren Hellekson, owner of Moksha Yoga and Meditation, stated “It’s really cool to see things happening around town that aren’t just appealing to a certain demographic. Plus, I’m in the fashion show so it’s really cool that they’re getting everyone involved as much as they can. I’m a tattooed biker who owns a business downtown and it’s pretty awesome to feel part of something that’s totally in my wheelhouse.”
