The Alzheimer’s Association Lake/Geauga County Walk to End Alzheimer’s is returning to the scenic Lake Metroparks Farmpark on Saturday, September 28. This inspiring event is one of more than 600 walks taking place across the country this fall, making it the world’s largest fundraising effort in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
The Alzheimer’s Association Lake/Geauga County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, September 28, at the Lake Metroparks Farmpark, located at 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland, Ohio. The event will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 8:45 a.m., and the walk will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. Participants can choose from a 1-mile or 3-mile route as they join together in this meaningful effort to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
Walkers will have the opportunity to choose from a 1-mile or 3-mile route. The event kicks off with an emotionally charged Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants will raise colorful flowers representing their personal connections to Alzheimer’s – blue for those living with the disease, purple for those who have lost someone to it, yellow for caregivers, and orange for supporters of the cause.
Why participate? Alzheimer’s is an illness that impacts millions of families nationwide, including nearly 236,200 individuals right here in Ohio. Over 414,000 family caregivers in the state provide unpaid care valued at more than $11.4 billion each year. This event not only raises vital funds for the Association’s free education programs, support services, and cutting-edge research but also serves as a reminder of the collective strength and hope of our community.
Fundraising and Registration: Participation in the Walk is free, but fundraising is encouraged. Registered participants who raise a minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt, and additional incentives such as blankets, coolers, and more are available for higher fundraising achievements. To ensure you receive your shirt before the Walk, meet the fundraising goal at least four weeks before the event.
Family, Pets, and Volunteers Welcome: This event is open to all ages, with children encouraged to participate with their families. While strollers are welcome, skateboards, bicycles, and wheelie footwear are discouraged for safety reasons. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome on the 3-mile route. Additionally, volunteers are needed to assist with various roles, including registration, water stops, and setting up the Promise Garden.
