Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics will move its recently combined Kent and Ravenna practices to the hospital’s new Portage Health Center June 2.
The primary care office will be the first service to open in the new 29,500-square-foot health center, located at 2497 State Route 59 in Ravenna. The pediatrics practice will now be known as Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, Portage.
Additional pediatric specialties will be added to the building in the future, with outpatient rehabilitation services (physical, occupational and speech therapies) to open at a later date.
“We are excited to provide pediatric care in this beautiful new space,” said Michael Mainwaring, vice president of community care at Akron Children’s Hospital. “We understand how important it is to have convenient access to health care, especially for today’s busy families. This new health center will allow us to bring more pediatric services to the Kent and Ravenna area so families don’t need to travel far for exceptional care.”
The nearly $10 million health center will be donated to Akron Children’s by the project’s developer, A. Altman Company. The health center’s welcome center will be named The Altman Family Welcome Center in recognition of the gift. The building’s interior reflects the history of Portage County, with nods to its natural resources and role as a regional transportation hub.
“We are honored to support the children and families of Portage County through this donation,” said Rick Altman and Lou Altman. “The new Akron Children’s Health Center, Portage is bringing important services together under one roof – and we are proud to have played a small role in its development.”
The Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, Portage office features 23 large exam rooms to treat patients. Providers from the Kent and Ravenna offices will continue to see patients there and a new physician will join the office, which will be staffed by board-certified pediatricians, nurse practitioners and pediatric nurses.
The office is accepting new patients. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. For appointments, call 330-KID-APPT.
